Errwood Reservoir

Completed in 1967 Errwood Reservoir is located within the natural beauty of the Peak District National Park. The Derbyshire reservoir is very close to the boundary with Cheshire and only a few miles from Staffordshire. The reservoir, constructed by the Stockport Water Corporation at a cost of £1.5 million, is the second of two reservoirs built in the Goyt Valley, the other one being Fernilee Reservoir. It is currently owned and operated by United Utilities.

Errwood Reservoir Fishing Techniques

Dry, wet, surface or deep water flies can catch fish. Depths vary from a few feet to 100ft plus. Reservoir tackle is ideal. Boats are not permitted, but with almost 2 miles of bank and the feeder streams, there are plenty of good spots to choose from and you do not have to fish on top of one another. Wading is not permitted, nor is it necessary, with plenty of fish within normal casting distance. Wind lanes often come close to the shore and often provide great sport. Trout move around so if you draw a blank in one spot then walking a few yards can work wonders.

Fly patterns that catch include the usual reservoir selection, that can be supplemented at certain times of the year by matching the hatch. Wind-born terrestrials such as Heather Flies, Bibio and ants can provide exciting sport when they are on the water. Small sedges in the evening can be deadly. Spider and buzzer patterns fished on a floating line, 2 to 3 feet down also work well.
